A Fruitless Visit to the Garden

yīng lián jī chǐ yìn cāng tái
应 怜 屐 齿 印 苍 苔 ，
Should one pity the marks left by clogs on the moss,

xiǎo kòu chái fēi jiǔ bù kāi
小 扣 柴 扉 久 不 开 。
Gently knocking on the wooden door which has not been opened for a long time.

chūn sè mǎn yuán guān bù zhù
春 色 满 园 关 不 住 ，
The spring color fills the garden but cannot be contained,

yī zhī hóng xìng chū qiáng lái
一 枝 红 杏 出 墙 来 。
A branch of red apricot reaches out over the wall.
