shí wǔ cóng jūn zhēng
十 五 从 军 征 ，
At the age of fifteen, I went to war,

bā shí shǐ dé guī
八 十 始 得 归 。
At the age of eighty, I returned home.

dào féng xiāng lǐ rén
道 逢 乡 里 人 ，
On the road, I met a fellow villager,

jiā zhōng yǒu ā shuí
家 中 有 阿 谁 ？
Who in my family is still alive?

yáo kàn shì jūn jiā
遥 看 是 君 家 ，
From afar, I see my house,

sōng bǎi zhǒng léi léi
松 柏 冢 累 累 。
The tombs of pine and cypress are numerous.

tù cóng gǒu dòu rù
兔 从 狗 窦 入 ，
Rabbits enter through the dog holes,

zhì cóng liáng shàng fēi
雉 从 梁 上 飞 。
Pheasants fly from the beams above.

zhōng tíng shēng lǚ gǔ
中 庭 生 旅 谷 ，
In the middle of the courtyard, there is wild millet,

jǐng shàng shēng lǚ kuí
井 上 生 旅 葵 。
On the well, there is wild malva.

chōng gǔ chí zuò fàn
舂 谷 持 作 饭 ，
Pound the millet to make a meal,

cǎi kuí chí zuò gēng
采 葵 持 作 羹 。
Pick the malva to make a soup.

gēng fàn yī shí shú
羹 饭 一 时 熟 ，
The soup and meal are cooked at the same time,

bù zhī yí ā shuí
不 知 饴 阿 谁 ？
But I don’t know who to feed.

chū mén dōng xiàng kàn
出 门 东 向 看 ，
I go out the door and look to the east,

lèi luò zhān wǒ yī
泪 落 沾 我 衣 。
Tears fall and soak my clothes.
