峰 峦 如 聚 ,波 涛 如 怒 ,
Peaks and ridges gather like clouds, waves surge and anger,
shān hé biǎo lǐ tóng guān lù
山 河 表 里 潼 关 路 。
Mountains and rivers embrace the inside and outside of the Tong Pass road.
wàng xī dū yì chóu chú
望 西 都 , 意 踌 躇 。
Gazing towards the ancient capital in the west, my thoughts hesitate.
shāng xīn qín hàn jīng xíng chù
伤 心 秦 汉 经 行 处 ,
Heartbroken are the sites where the Qin and Han dynasties once thrived,
gōng què wàn jiān dōu zuò le tǔ
宫 阙 万 间 都 做 了 土 。
Palaces and halls, thousands of rooms, now all turned to dust.
xīng bǎi xìng kǔ wáng bǎi xìng kǔ
兴 , 百 姓 苦 ; 亡 , 百 姓 苦 !
Rise, the common people suffer; fall, the common people suffer!
