duì jiǔ dāng gē rén shēng jǐ hé
对 酒 当 歌 , 人 生 几 何 !
When facing wine, let us sing a song, for life is fleeting and rare!
pì rú zhāo lù qù rì kǔ duō
譬 如 朝 露 , 去 日 苦 多 。
Just like the morning dew, the days of departure are full of sorrow.
kǎi dāng yǐ kāng yōu sì nán wàng
慨 当 以 慷 , 忧 思 难 忘 。
With a generous spirit, I lament, for my worries are hard to forget.
hé yǐ jiě yōu wéi yǒu dù kāng
何 以 解 忧 ? 唯 有 杜 康 。
What can dispel these troubles? Only the famous Du Kang wine.
qīng qīng zǐ jīn yōu yōu wǒ xīn
青 青 子 衿 , 悠 悠 我 心 。
The green robes of young scholars, how deep and vast is my mind.
dàn wèi jūn gù chén yín zhì jīn
但 为 君 故 , 沉 吟 至 今 。
Yet, for your sake, my lord, I ponder and chant to this day.
yōu yōu lù míng shí yě zhī píng
呦 呦 鹿 鸣 , 食 野 之 苹 。
Listen to the deer cry “you-you,” as they feed on the wild apples.
wǒ yǒu jiā bīn gǔ sè chuī shēng
我 有 嘉 宾 , 鼓 瑟 吹 笙 。
I have distinguished guests, playing the zither and blowing the sheng flute.
míng míng rú yuè hé shí kě duō yōu cóng zhōng lái bù kě duàn jué
明 明 如 月 , 何 时 可 掇 忧 从 中 来 , 不 可 断 绝 。
Bright as the moon, when can I pluck my worries from it, for they cannot be severed.
yuè mò dù qiān wǎng yòng xiāng cún
越 陌 度 阡 , 枉 用 相 存 。
Crossing the paths and ridges, in vain do we seek each other’s company.
qì kuò tán yàn xīn niàn jiù ēn
契 阔 谈 䜩 , 心 念 旧 恩 。
With broad discussions and feasts, my heart remembers past kindness.
yuè míng xīng xī wū què nán fēi
月 明 星 稀 , 乌 鹊 南 飞 。
The moon is bright, the stars are sparse, as the magpies fly south.
rào shù sān zā hé zhī kě yī
绕 树 三 匝 , 何 枝 可 依 ?
Circling the tree three times, on which branch can they rely?
shān bù yàn gāo hǎi bù yàn shēn
山 不 厌 高 , 海 不 厌 深 。
Mountains never tire of their height, and seas never tire of their depth.
zhōu gōng tǔ bǔ tiān xià guī xīn
周 公 吐 哺 , 天 下 归 心 。
Duke Zhou spits out his nourishment, as the world unites in loyalty.
