登 高
Climbing High

táng dù fǔ
(Tang) Du Fu

fēng jí tiān gāo yuán xiào āi
The wind is fierce, the sky is high, and the monkeys howl sadly,

zhǔ qīng shā bái niǎo fēi huí
The islets are clear, the sands are white, and the birds fly back.

wú biān luò mù xiāo xiāo xià
Endless falling leaves rustle down,

bù jìn cháng jiāng gǔn gǔn lái
The endless Yangtze River keeps rolling in.

wàn lǐ bēi qiū cháng zuò kè
Ten thousand miles I grieve for autumn, often a guest,

bǎi nián duō bìng dú dēng tái
For a hundred years, sick much, I climb the platform alone.

jiān nán kǔ hèn fán shuāng bìn
Hardship and bitter hatred thicken my frosty temples,

liáo dǎo xīn tíng zhuó jiǔ bēi
In adversity, I newly put down my turbid wine cup.
