12. One flower represents a world, and one Buddha represents Tathagata.
13.大悲无泪,大悟无言,大笑无声。
13. Great sorrow has no tears, great enlightenment has no words, and great laughter has no sound.

18. When using objects to represent objects, they can be objects; when using objects to represent non-objects, they are not objects. Objects cannot achieve the merit of names, and names cannot achieve the reality of objects. Unreal objects, therefore, have no objects.
19.人无善恶,善恶存乎尔心。
19. People are not inherently good or evil; goodness and evil exist in your heart.
20.声在闻中,自有生灭。非为汝闻声生声灭,令汝闻性为有为无。
20. Sounds exist in hearing, with inherent arising and ceasing. It is not that the sounds you hear bring forth the arising and ceasing, but rather that your nature of hearing has existence or non-existence.
21.华严奥藏,法华秘髓,一切诸佛之心要,菩萨万行之指南,皆不出于此也。欲广叹述,穷劫莫尽,智者自当知之。
21. The profound essence of Avatamsaka and the secret marrow of Lotus Sutra, the heart of all Buddhas, and the guiding principles for bodhisattvas’ myriad practices all lie within this. To elaborate and praise would be endless; the wise shall naturally understand.
22.命由己造,相由心生,世间万物皆是化相,心不动,万物皆不动,心不变,万物皆不变。
22. One’s destiny is created by oneself, and one’s appearance is born from the mind. All things in the world are illusory; when the mind is still, all things are still; when the mind remains unchanged, all things remain unchanged.
23.笑着面对,不去埋怨。悠然,随心,随性,随缘。注定让一生改变的,只在百年后,那一朵花开的时间。
23. Face life with a smile, without complaints. Leisurely, following the heart, the nature, and the fate. What is destined to change one’s life occurs only after a hundred years, at the time when a flower blooms.
24.刹那便是永恒。
24. A moment is an eternity.
25.种如是因,收如是果,一切唯心造。
25. Sow such a cause, reap such a result; all is created by the mind.
26.爱别离,怨憎会,撒手西归,全无是类。不过是满眼空花,一片虚幻。
26. Love and separation, hatred and reunion - let go and return to the West, for all are nothing but empty flowers before one’s eyes, an illusion.
27.一切有为法,如梦幻泡影,如露亦如电,应作如是观。
27. All conditioned phenomena are like dreams, illusions, bubbles, and shadows; like dew and lightning, one should view them in such a manner.
28.心生种种法生,心灭种种法灭。
28. When the mind gives rise to various phenomena, they come into existence; when the mind ceases, they vanish.
29.若真修道人,不见世间过。若见世间过,即非真修者。
29. If a true practitioner does not see the faults of the world, they are indeed a true practitioner. If one sees the faults of the world, they are not a true practitioner.
30.个个恋色贪财,尽是失人身之捷径;日日耽酒食肉,无非种地狱之深根。
30. Everyone who is attached to sensuality and greed is losing their human form; daily indulgence in wine, meat, and food is planting the deep roots of hell.
31.真为生死,发菩提心。以深信愿,持佛名号。
31. For the sake of birth and death, generate the mind of enlightenment. With deep faith and vows, hold on to the Buddha’s name.
32.菩提本无树,明镜亦非台。本来无疑物,何处染尘埃。
32. Bodhi originally has no tree; the bright mirror is not a platform. There is no object of doubt; where can dust be stained?
33.觉了一切法,犹如梦幻响。
33. Upon realizing all phenomena, they are like dreams and echoes.
34.若信愿坚固,临终一念十念,亦决得生。若无信愿,纵将名号持之风吹不入,雨打不湿,如铜墙铁壁相似,亦无得生之理。
34. If one’s faith and vows are firm, even a single thought or ten thoughts at the moment of death will surely be reborn. If there is no faith and vows, even if one holds the name of the Buddha unyielding to wind and rain, like a copper wall or iron wall, there is no reason to be reborn.
35.欲知前世因,今生受者是;欲知来世果,今生作者是。
35. To know the cause of previous lives, look at the present life’s experiences; to know the result of future lives, observe the actions of the present life.
36.佛菩萨虽修六度万行,广作佛事,但视同梦幻,心无住著,远离诸相;灭度无量、无数、无边众生,实无众生得灭度者;无修而修,修即无修,终日度生,终日无度。”
36. Although Buddhas and bodhisattvas practice the six paramitas and myriad deeds, they view them as dreams and illusions, with no attachment, and remain distant from all phenomena; liberating countless, innumerable, and boundless sentient beings, yet in reality, no sentient beings are liberated; practicing without practicing, practicing is truly non-practicing, and daily liberating sentient beings, yet daily not liberating.
37.故一声阿弥陀佛,即释迦本师于五浊恶世,所得之阿耨多罗三藐三菩提法。今以此果觉全体授与浊恶众生,乃诸佛所行境界,唯佛与佛方能究尽,非九界自力所能信解也。
37. Therefore, a single recitation of Amitabha Buddha is the Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi Dharma attained by Shakyamuni Buddha in the five turbid evils world. Now, bestowing this fruit of enlightenment upon turbid sentient beings is the realm of all Buddhas; only Buddhas can fully understand, not by the nine realms’ own power of faith and understanding.
38.皱者为变,不皱非变;变者受灭,彼不变者,原无生灭,云何于中受汝生死?
38. The wrinkled one is change; the unwrinkled is not change. The changing one is subject to extinction; the unchanging one, originally free from birth and extinction, how can it accept your life and death?
39.佛言:夫为道者,如被干草,火来须避。道人见欲,必当远之。
39. The Buddha said: Those who seek the path should be like dry grass; when fire comes, one must avoid it. A practitioner who sees desire must keep a distance.
40.缘起法身偈 诸法因缘生,我说是因缘。因缘尽故灭,我作如是说。
40. The verse on the origination of the Dharma-Body: All phenomena arise from conditions; I speak of such conditions. When conditions are exhausted, they cease; thus do I speak.

45. The Buddha said: A monk practicing the Way is like a grinding ox; although the body practices the Way, the mind does not. If the mind practices the Way, there is no need to practice the Way.
46.拘那含牟尼佛偈 佛不见身知是佛,若实有知别无佛。智者能知罪性空,坦然不惧于生死。

54. The Buddha said: Among all desires, none should surpass the desire for form. The desire for form is boundless; fortunately, there is only one. If there were two, no one in the world would be able to practice the Way.
55.若人知心行,普造诸世间。是人则见佛,了佛真实性。
55. If one knows the mind and practices the Way, creating all worlds, then that person will see the Buddha and understand the true nature of the Buddha.
56.此身已在含元殿,更向何处问长安。
56. This body is already in the Contemplation Hall; where else can one ask for Chang’an?

59. The Buddha said: When one sees others practicing the Way and giving, one should rejoice and help them. The resulting merit is immense. A monk asked: Is this merit exhausted? The Buddha said: It is like a torch flame shared by hundreds or thousands of people, each taking a portion with their torch. The original torch remains unchanged, and the merit is also like this.
60.若欲放下即放下,欲待了期无了期。此身不向今生度,更向何生度此身。
60. If one wishes to let go, let go immediately; if one waits for a specific time, there will be no end. If this body is not liberated in this life, in which life will it be liberated?
61.祸福无门,惟人自召;善恶之报,如影随形。
61. Fortune and misfortune have no door, only people invite them themselves; the retribution of good and evil follows like a shadow.
62.且破心头一点痴 ,十方何处不加持,圆明佛眼常相照,只是当人不自知。
62. Break the foolishness in your heart, and blessings will come from all directions; the Buddha’s eyes are always shining upon you, but people often don’t realize it.
63.得生与否,全由信愿之有无;品位高下,全由持名之深浅。
63. Whether one is reborn or not depends on the presence or absence of faith and vows; the rank depends on the depth of the recitation of the name.
64.芙蓉白面,须知带肉骷髅;美貌红妆,不过蒙衣漏厕。

65.更须自己勤奋。不可依赖他人。阿难尊者以王子佛弟。舍其富贵。出家从佛。希望佛一援手。即得超登果位。讵知仍须自己悟修。不能假借。
65. One must be diligent and not rely on others. Ananda, as the prince and Buddha’s brother, gave up his wealth and status to follow the Buddha, hoping for a helping hand to achieve enlightenment. However, he still had to realize and cultivate on his own, and could not rely on others.
66.起行宜辨正助,或念佛为正,以余法作助,余法都可回向净土。念佛贵于心口不异,念念不间,念至不念自念,寤寐恒一,如是用功,何愁不到极乐……
66. When starting a practice, it is important to distinguish between the main and auxiliary methods. For example, reciting the Buddha’s name as the main practice, and other methods as auxiliary. All other methods can be dedicated to the Pure Land. Reciting the Buddha’s name is valuable when the mind and speech are consistent, and the recitation is continuous. When you reach the state of non-recitation yet self-recitation, and maintain this state in both waking and sleeping, there is no need to worry about not reaching the Pure Land…
67.修行要在动用中修,不一定要坐下来闭起眼才算修行,要在四威仪中,以戒定慧三学,除贪嗔痴三毒,收摄六根如牧牛一样,不许它犯人苗稼。
67. Cultivation should be practiced in daily activities, not just by sitting down and closing one’s eyes. In the four postures, one should practice the three studies of precepts, meditation, and wisdom to eliminate the three poisons of greed, anger, and ignorance, and to restrain the six senses as if herding cattle, not allowing them to harm others.
68.人命无常,朝存夕亡,如石火电光。
68. Human life is impermanent, existing in the morning and gone in the evening, like a flash of lightning.
69.善用心者,心田不长无明草,处处常开智慧花。
69. Those who use their minds well will not let the weeds of ignorance grow in their mind; instead, they will always bloom with the flowers of wisdom.
70.时光长短,唯心所造。一切苦乐,随境所迁。

81. Afraid of being overly affectionate and damaging my spiritual practice, yet fearful of leaving behind the beauty of the world when entering the mountains. How can one find a way to satisfy both the worldly and the spiritual realms, without disappointing either the Buddha or their beloved?
82.弥陀好念,勿虚彼国之金台;阎老无情,莫惹他家之铁棒。
82. Reciting Amitabha is good, but do not waste the golden platform of that land; Yanluo is merciless, so avoid provoking the iron staff of his household.
83.归元性无二,方便有多门。
83. The nature of returning to the origin is unique, but there are many convenient methods.
84.若诸世界六道众生,其心不淫,则不随其生死相续。汝修三昧,本出尘劳。淫心不除,尘不可出。纵有多智禅定现前,若不断淫,必落魔道。
84. If all beings in the six realms of the world do not harbor lustful thoughts, they will not follow the cycle of birth and death. You cultivate samadhi to transcend the mundane world. If lust is not eliminated, one cannot escape the dust. Even with great wisdom and meditation, if lust is not severed, one will inevitably fall into the demonic path.
85.佛言:当念身中四大,各自有名,都无我者,我既都无。其如幻耳。
85. The Buddha said: One should contemplate the four great elements within the body, each with its own name, and recognize that there is no self. Like an illusion, it is not real.
86.如是一切法,尽在自性。自性常清净,日月常明,只为云覆盖,上明下暗,不能了见日月星辰。忽遇惠风吹散,卷尽云雾,万像森罗,一时皆现。
86. All these teachings are within one’s own nature. The nature is always pure, and the sun and moon are always bright. However, they are obscured by clouds, making the upper realm bright and the lower dark, preventing the clear observation of the sun, moon, and stars. When a favorable wind blows and disperses the clouds, revealing all the myriad forms, one will truly see the world.
87.人心不古,置因果于罔闻,那知因果理彻,如影随形,如响斯应,若深信之者,人心则不改而善。纵遇顺逆之境,必无忧喜。当知现生所受,或遇兵刀水火劫贼等事,皆由自造。
87. People’s hearts are no longer ancient, disregarding the law of cause and effect. Yet, the principle of cause and effect is thorough, like a shadow following form and a sound responding to a vibration. If one deeply believes in it, the heart will remain unchanged and virtuous. Even when encountering favorable or adverse circumstances, there will be no worries or joy. One should understand that the sufferings experienced in this life, such as wars, floods, fires, and robberies, are all self-inflicted.
88.妄想来了,就让它来,我总不理会它,妄想自然会息。
88. When delusions arise, let them come; I will not pay attention to them, and they will naturally subside.
89.世尊所说三藏十二部经典,也是为了你我的贪嗔痴三毒。三藏十二部的主要内容就是戒定慧,就是因果。使我戒除贪欲,抱定慈悲喜舍,实行六度万行,打破愚迷邪痴,圆满智慧德相,庄严功德法身。若能依此处世为人,那真是处处总是华藏界了。
89. The teachings of the Tathagata, the Tripitaka, and the twelve divisions of the scriptures, are also for our three poisons of greed, anger, and ignorance. The main content of the Tripitaka and the twelve divisions is precepts, meditation, and wisdom, as well as cause and effect. They help us to eliminate greed, embrace compassion, loving-kindness, and sympathetic joy, practice the six perfections, break through ignorance and delusion, and perfect wisdom and virtue. If one can live in this world following these teachings, it would be like living in the Pure Land everywhere.
90.何谓戒定慧?防非止恶曰戒。六根涉境,心不随缘曰定。心境俱空,照览无惑曰慧。防止三业之邪非,则心水自澄明,即由戒生定。心水澄明,则自照万象,即由定生慧。
90. What are precepts, meditation, and wisdom? Preventing wrongdoing and stopping evil is called precepts. When the six senses encounter objects, the mind not following conditions is called meditation. The mind and realm being empty, with clear and undisturbed contemplation, is called wisdom. By preventing the three evil deeds, the mind becomes clear and tranquil, thus giving rise to meditation from precepts. When the mind is clear, it can illuminate all phenomena, thus giving rise to wisdom from meditation.
91.修行用功,贵在一心。
91. Cultivation and diligence lie in focusing the mind.
92.凡夫的境界,总是贪染财、色、名、利。
92. The realm of ordinary people is always tainted by greed for wealth, sex, fame, and profit.
93.因为你我无始以来,被七情六欲所迷,从朝至暮,总是在声色之中过日子,所以沉沦苦海。
93. Since time immemorial, you and I have been fascinated by the seven emotions and six desires, living our lives immersed in sensuality from morning till night, thus sinking into the bitter sea.
94.人在爱欲之中独生独死,独去独来。苦乐自当,无有代者。
94. In the realm of love and desire, one is born and dies alone, comes and goes alone. One must bear their own suffering and happiness, with no one to replace them.
95.智人除心不除境,愚人除境不除心。心既除矣,境岂实有。
95. The wise eliminate the mind, not the environment; the foolish eliminate the environment, not the mind. Once the mind is eliminated, how can the environment be real?
96.佛言:慎勿视女色,亦莫共言语。若与语者,正心思念:我为沙门,处于浊世,当如莲华,不为泥污。想其老者如母,长者如姊,少者如妹,稚者如子。生度脱心,息灭恶念。
96. Buddha said: Be cautious not to gaze at women’s beauty, and do not engage in conversation with them. If you must speak with them, maintain a proper mindset and think: As a monk, I am in a turbid world and should be like a lotus, not tainted by mud. Regard the elderly as mothers, the middle-aged as sisters, the young as younger sisters, and the children as one’s own children. Cultivate a mind of liberation and extinguish evil thoughts.
97.二八佳人体似酥,腰间仗剑斩愚夫。虽然不见头落地,暗里摧君骨髓枯。
97. The body of an exquisite 16-year-old girl is like butter, with a hidden sword at her waist to slay foolish men. Although you may not see heads falling to the ground, it secretly withers your marrow.
98.厌离未切终难去,欣爱非深岂易生。铁围山外莲花国,掣断情缰始放行。
98. Without a strong desire to leave, it is difficult to let go; without deep love, it is hard to let it arise. Beyond the Iron Enclosure Mountain lies the Lotus Land; only by breaking free from the reins of emotions can one set forth.
99.佛言:夫为道者,如牛负重,行深泥中,疲极不敢左右顾视。出离淤泥,乃可苏息。沙门当观情欲,甚于淤泥。直心念道,可免苦矣。
